Faculty art show series launches at White Box

The first of three UO art faculty exhibitions at White Box in Portland offers collages, paper wall-relief works, cardboard sculptures, silkscreen prints, and a three-minute film by UO Assistant Professor Christopher Michlig. The show runs November 3–December 10.

New York curator to discuss living, sensory elements in art

Eden Powell won’t forget seeing “real spaces where people create in the New York art world,” which she experienced last March on a field trip with her “Spring Break in New York” ART 408 class. The visit included a stop at SculptureCenter, which exposed the students to “a really current, cutting edge art scene [in] a multidimensional and dynamic space,” said Powell, an undergraduate art student.

UO art professors featured in ‘Portland2016 Biennial’ exhibitions opening this weekend

Exhibitions that include work by UO art faculty members open this weekend in galleries in Portland as part of Portland2016 Biennial, a major survey of work by artists who are defining and advancing contemporary art practices.

“Intervals of Time25,” a collaboration by UO art faculty members Anya Kivarkis and Mike Bray.


Anya Kivarkis named 2016 Hallie Ford Fellow

UO Associate Professor of Art Anya Kivarkis is one of five Oregon artists named Hallie Ford Fellows in the Visual Arts for 2016. She was among 156 applicants and is the only recipient who lives in Eugene. The honor comes with a $25,000 unrestricted award.

Students take sports filmmaking to next level in ‘Stoked 101’

In the ‘Stoked 101’ assistant professor Rick Silva instructed students to think “beyond the GoPro” and study the craft of action sports filmmaking. A documentary on a local fly fisherman, an experimental short film that blends animation with reality, and a mockumentary about former Slip ‘N’ Slide athletes were among the films produced by students during the course. The short films will be screened at the Outdoor Program Barn (1225 East 18th Ave) at 6 p.m. this Friday, June 10.

Digital Arts student’s handmade stickers honor Oregon

You may spot the work of digital arts senior Ashlee Pierce on water bottles, laptops, and car windows around campus. Last November, one of her sketches inspired her to sell original vinyl stickers that salute the state of Oregon.



‘Spring Storm’ returns to Lawrence Hall

Spring Storm 2016 Senior Show, the fourth annual exhibition of work by graduating seniors in art, digital arts, and product design, will take place one evening only, Friday May 27, from 5-8 p.m. in Lawrence Hall. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
